As of last October, we knew that a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy was happening, as was announced when Disney purchased Lucasfilm. At the time, all we knew was that the new series would start with ‘Star Wars Episode VII’, and that the film will be directed by J.J. Abrams, which will be released in the summer of 2015. It’s believed that the new films will see the return of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, as their iconic characters of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, but in what capacity is unknown. There are many rumors circulating about what’s to come, including a rumored TV series, as well as stand alone spin-off films.
Well, now we have some concrete evidence of what’s to come for the future of ‘Star Wars’. Today, at CinemaCon, studio head Alan Horn announced that we’ll see a new ‘Star Wars’ film every summer, starting in summer 2015 with ‘Star Wars Episode VII’. The films will alternate between a new Episode, then a spin-off film, and then another Episode film, etc., for the foreseeable future. We knew that ‘Star Wars’ would be coming back in a big way, but who knew it would be this big? This is great news for fans of the series, like myself, and I really can’t wait to see what Lucasfilm, and Disney, have in store for us. This is a great time to be a ‘Star Wars’ fan, and it’ll be great to see the series continue.
