When we think of Disney and technology the first thing that comes to mind is innovative ride systems, use of RFID and other technologies to enhance guests experiences….but cake????
A recent patent from Disney outlines plans for “augmented reality” cakes and other food products. The concept is that these food products would display interactive movies and images right on the treats! By using small projectors and motion sensors – a simple birthday cake could be magically transformed into a magical interactive storybook to a fully interactive fantasy world!
While the patent’s ideas seem conceptual, they do outline how an image would be projected onto a cake and describes a montage of photos or videos that could be presented as an edible picture frame”. Sensors could track movement, so with the wave of a hand a guest could “flip” through a virtual storybook presented on a cake or wave some virtual “pixie dust” over their cake!
The patent seems to focus on interacting with Augmented Reality for desserts. So lets hope that down the road a fully interactive dessert will be just the right thing to top off your meal at one of the Disney parks! Stay tuned!

I could see this being used for big events or special celebrations within the park. Like how you can already have a cake sent to your table but this will be an extra cool cake.
Thats sounds very interesting. I wonder how long it takes from idea to development of these kinds of ideas.
It will be interesting to see how this works once they start making the interactive cakes.
