Disney has ordered a film adaption for the Tony Award winning Broadway musical ‘Once On This Island‘ for Disney+. The hit musical will be adapted into a movie featuring the story rather than the traditional stage production. The musical takes place in the French Antilles in the Caribbean Sea and follows the story of Ti Moune, a fearless peasant girl who falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island. When their divided cultures keep them apart, Ti Moune is guided by the powerful island gods, Erzulie, Asaka, Papa Ge, and Agwe, on a remarkable quest to reunite with the man who has captured her heart.
The award winning musical is based on the same story by Hans Christian Andersen as The Little Mermaid and the Rosa Guy novel, My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl. Jocelyn Bioh is set to pen the adaption of the musical with Wanuri Kahiu signed on to direct the film for Disney+. Marc Platt (Wicked, Legally Blonde) will be producing the movie adaption for the studio. It is currently unknown who will star in the film and when it will premiere on Disney+, but be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and for all things Disney+!
