Disney on Ice / Feld Entertainment lays off 90% of their employees

Feld Entertainment issued an announcement this past Friday. Unfortunately, the entertainment company is forced to make layoffs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sources say nearly 90 percent of their staff received severance letters on Friday. The employees and entertainers of Disney on Ice were included in these layoffs.

Disney on Ice is a touring ice show featuring Disney characters and produced by Feld Entertainment. The company has been making Disney-based ice shows since the 1980s. Any upcoming show tours of Disney on Ice are canceled for now.

Feld Entertainment also produces many other popular traveling shows. Such as Monster Jam, Marvel Universe Live, Supercross, and Jurassic World Live Tour. The layoffs affected the employees of these other shows as well.

Feld Entertainment is hopeful about returning to business with their traveling shows. The company had Stephen C. Yaros, Senior Vice President of Global Communications, issue the following statement:

“Over the past few weeks the world has been racing to contain the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. This has resulted in unprecedented and widespread government-mandated closures of public gatherings that has forced us to shut down all Feld Entertainment tours. Although we hope to resume operations soon, there is no assurance of when that will happen. Therefore, we had to make the difficult decision to reduce the size of our workforce through company wide layoffs.”

We will post updates on the future of Disney on Ice when new information becomes available.
