Disney has officially dropped its lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, marking the end of a contentious period between the entertainment giant and the state government, according to reporting by The Associated Press. This decision follows the finalization of a new development agreement between Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, the body that replaced the former Reedy Creek Improvement District. The new agreement sets a clear course for the development activities at Walt Disney World Resort for the next decade.

The agreement was officially adopted recently, and Disney promptly requested a federal appellate court to dismiss its lawsuit against Governor DeSantis. This move is not a surprise, as the federal lawsuit’s future depended on whether a development agreement could be reached between Disney and the DeSantis appointees who now govern the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

As part of the 15-year deal, Disney has committed to investing $17 billion into Disney World over the next two decades. In return, the district will undertake infrastructure improvements on the theme park resort’s property. The district, which provides municipal services such as firefighting, EMS, planning, and mosquito control, was previously controlled by Disney supporters until the takeover by DeSantis appointees last year.

This agreement came after a settlement reached in March, where both sides agreed to cease litigation in state court and work towards negotiating a new development agreement and comprehensive plan by next year. The latest development agreement was officially adopted by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District during a June 12 meeting.
