Disney didn’t do as well as I thought they might have at this year’s Oscar nominations. You may have heard that”Saving Mr. Banks” was not nominated for Best Picture and and acting categories.
I was shocked to hear that Tom Hanks was not nominated for his role as “Walt Disney” in ” Saving Mr. Banks”. However the movie did get a nomination for Thomas Newman’s original music score.
“Frozen” was nominated for best animated feature. Disney animation usually loses to Pixar. “Frozen” also was nominated in the best original song category for “Let it Go,” although it has some hardcore competition from U2’s “Ordinary Love” from “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom,” which just won a Golden Globe.
On the upside, I am sure Disney will be just fine because “Frozen” made more than $700 million worldwide and it’s still off and running. Last year, “Iron Man 3” was the second highest grossing movie of the year. “Monsters University” made more than $700 million worldwide. Last but not least, another big winner for Disney last year was “Oz The Great and Powerful” and “Thor: The Dark World,” both made more than $200 million in the U.S.A.
A little F.Y.I. for all of my Disney Addicts, did you know Walt Disney won 22 competitive Academy Awards between 1932 and 1969, the last of which for “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” which he won after he passed away in 1966. He also received 3 honorary awards.
