Characters for hire is being sued by Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilms Entertainment for using copyrighted characters without permission, the suit was filed in Manhattan federal Court on last week.
The lawsuit is claiming that Characters for hire was using copyrighted characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Snow White, Spiderman, Iron Man, Darth Vader, Princess Leia and others to promote their services on their website even after being asked three times by the plaintiffs to remove the images. The owner of Characters for Hire, Avi Lieberman, said he would comply with the request to remove them yet never did.
On Thursday Characters for Hire was promoting an event on its website called “Je’Daii Training”. The intro for the sword fighting show suggested for birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs and bachelor/bachelorette parties was a rip off of the opening line to Star Wars reading “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”
Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilms is suing for an amount to be determined by the courts.
What do you think about this? Has Characters for Hire gone too far?
