Disney is bringing all our favorite animated features out of the vault and re-imagining them. The age of live action films is now. Disney is developing multiple live action films over the next few years. Here’s a list of what’s to come.
First up, Disney’s The Lion King a little over a week away from it’s theater release. This adaptation is directed by Jungle Book’s Jon Favreau. The film showcases the voices of Donald Glover and Beyoncé, to the classic music of Tim Rice, Hans Zimmer, and Elton John.
Angelina Jolie will reprise her role as Maleficent, The Mistress of Evil, this October.
Disney just released their first trailer for the live action Mulan. See actress Liu Yifei play Mulan when the film hits theaters in March of 2020.
Emma Stone will star in Disney’s Cruella. Much like the first Maleficent, Cruella will tell the tale of humble beginnings to villain in this live action film. Cruella will debut in theaters in December of 2020.
The Little Mermaid is making some huge casting waves which will bring it closer to production. Actress and singer, Halle Bailey, will be playing Ariel.
A live adaptation of Lady and the Tramp is coming to a slightly smaller screen. Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux will lend their voices to these lovable pups. Lady and the Tramp will premier on Disney’s streaming service this November.
All together, Disney has about 20 live action films in the works. These films range from classics like Pinocchio and Peter Pan, to original stories like Rose Red and a prequel titled “Genies”. This calls for an exciting future for Walt Disney Pictures!
