The Disney company is doubling down on adult animation with the launch of a new division devoted to the genre. The new unit, 20th Television Animation, will develop and produce animated series aimed primarily at an adult audience.
Marci Proietto, executive vice president for 20th Century Television, is the head of the new division. All animated programming previously produced by 20th Century Television will now be handled by the new unit. The company said that there are currently “dozens” of additional projects in development for a range of platforms.
20th Television Animation has 11 series currently in production including the recently ordered Koala Man at Hulu and Solar Opposites, which launched its second season on the streamer last week. This also includes Fox’s The Great North, which airs at 8:30pm on Sundays, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Bless The Harts, Duncanville and American Dad, Central Park, which returns to Apple TV+ in June and HBO Max’s The Prince, which launches later this spring.
