You can now find Disney Junior and Disney XD shows on Netflix! Netflix and Disney/ABC Television group have come to an agreement to allow Netflix to become the only subscription streaming service to feature the popular children’s television shows “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” and the animated “Tron: Uprising.”
This multi-year licensing deal also allows Netflix to offer children’s shows including “Handy Manny,” “Special Agent Oso” and “JoJo’s Circus” to the movie and television service on a non-exclusive basis.
This announcement follows an agreement that was made last December, in which Netflix won exclusive pay TV rights to Walt Disney Studio films — including Marvel’s superhero films, Pixar’s animated films, and Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars.”
“This deal extends on the incredible line-up of Disney content already available for our members,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement.
Netflix is popular among families, especially with younger viewers who see streaming video services as second nature. Netflix created a “Just for Kids” interface that relies heavily on images, to aid in finding shows. In February, Netflix partnered with DreamWorks Animation to create an original animated series based on the forthcoming summer family film, “Turbo.”
The content in Netflix’s children’s section is kept commercial-free and carries ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media, which a non-profit organization that provides information to parents who want to evaluate their children’s media choices.
