Disney Is Rebooting 'Pirates of the Caribbean' without Captain Jack Sparrow

Disney Is Rebooting ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ without Captain Jack Sparrow. Roughly a year or so ago rumors swirled that Disney was looking to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but this time, without Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Though this news may be shocking to fans, Disney seems to have stepped away from working with Johnny Depp due to the mounting troubles in Depp’s professional and personal life.

“I think he [Johnny Depp] has had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now,” Stuart Beattie said to Daily Mail. “And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, so I’m just very, very happy about it.”

Disney has brought on veteran Pirates writer, Ted Elliott, and hired Chernobyl creator, Craig Mazin, to create an all new story that will give the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise “a kick in the pants.”  Disney Producer Sean Bailey wants to bring fresh faces to the franchise.

“We want to bring in a new energy and vitality,” shared Bailey.

Originally in 2018, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were signed on to reboot the franchise, but stepped down to focus on Deadpool 3 after Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Expected to return to the franchise is Executive Producer, Jerry Bruckheimer.

It is currently unknown if this Pirates reboot will premiere in theaters or possibly as a Disney+ original series or film on Disney’s new streaming service launching November 12th.

  1. If their changing the story and changing the characters they may as well not call it Pirates of the Caribbean and just re name it as another movie. Jack Sparrow is what you think of when you think of those movies. Dont’t the younger generation watch ‘ reboots ‘ thinking that’s what we all love becuase WE all love the original and WE all love Jack Sparrow.

  2. My kids love those movies! Jonny Depp makes thise movies what they are! Without him i dont see anyone really caring about the reboot. I wont watch it because he wont be in it.

  3. Too soon to reboot. They should treat rebooting like the disney vault. A franchise has got to go away for several years before they can decide to reboot something.

  4. I’ll be honest, the reboot is great news! But I don’t think I’ll watch the new movies to come because Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow won’t be them. I’ve grown so attached to that character, and I just don’t think the reboot will see great numbers without Jack Sparrow.

  5. It can’t be any good without Jonny Deep!
Disney needs to leave the franchise alone while it’s still good and not ruin it

  6. As a diehard fan of captain jack sparrow it would be a BIG NO for me. It wouldn’t be the same. So don’t waist your money! Big fail. And what does his personal life have to do with making people happy? Get him back.

  7. It’s not going to be the same without Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp did a great job. He was Captain Jack, wish that he could come back for one movie and then say farewell and sail off to a new adventure that why I think they should do that to let Captain Jack go.
