Ellie Garcia, who lost her life in the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school massacre, loved the Disney movie “Encanto.” Ellie was just days away from celebrating her birthday when she was shot and killed in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
The story of Ellie’s love of Encanto reached the Walt Disney Costume Team. So Disney sent the family a special care package.
“We heard you all love Encanto too,” a letter from the Disney Costume Team said, addressing the family. “You may notice how important butterflies are in the movie. They represent magic, hope, and family among many other things.”
The letter was part of a package sent by the Walt Disney Costume Team which also included a custom dress inspired by the one worn by the character Isabella in the film, a swatch of the fabric and flowers used to make Ellie’s dress and butterflies for her sisters.
“We gave Ellie a butterfly and wanted all of her sisters to have one too,” the letter added. “Fly ‘till you find your way towards tomorrow.”
Her parents released the following video thanking Disney’s Costume team for sending the care packages for the late Ellie and her sisters.
Actress Adassa, who voiced Dolores in the movie, also sent the family a video message.
“Instead of leaving a happy birthday message wishing her many, many more years to come or singing her favorite song, I now leave this video as a condolence for your loss,” she said.
