In a bit of breaking news, Deadline is reporting that the Walt Disney Company has just eliminated the entire Marvel Studios marketing department in a move to save the company money. This is coming just days after Walt Disney Studios and Marvel took the stage at D23 Expo for the first time together. In this restructure, Dana Precious, Marvel’s Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, as well as Jeffery Stewart, Vice President of Marketing, and Jodi Miller, Manager of Worldwide Marketing, we’re cut by the parent company. The official word right now is that Walt Disney Studios will now be in charge of Marvel’s film marketing, starting with next years ‘The Avengers’.
Right now, the word is that Disney found the job redundant by having separate studios doing it, and decided to merge all marketing into one. Fans shouldn’t be too worried though, because Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio’s head, will still be actively involved in all things Marvel Studios related. This news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though. Just last week Disney cut one of it’s big blockbuster movies, ‘The Long Ranger’, set to star Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, in order to save the company money when the budget ballooned to $250 million. Disney is intent on on saving money now in their film division, and these are just a few steps to doing that. It’ll be interesting to see what comes from this over the next few months.
