Lights, Camera… Construction! Animation Courtyard Overhaul Kicks Off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Big changes are on the way for Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the curtain is officially rising on the first act. Walt Disney World has filed two new construction permits, marking the beginning of what promises to be a major transformation of this beloved but aging corner of the park.

Permit Me to Explain…
Two permits were filed on July 29, both contracting the Buena Vista Construction Company—Disney’s go-to for smaller-scale projects. These early filings are likely laying the groundwork (literally) for demolition and prep work ahead of the main event:
- Permit #20250438843 covers 561 Stage Lane, home to the iconic archway marking the entrance to Animation Courtyard. The permit allows for “labor, material, and/or electrical for construction”—a clear sign the arch may soon be coming down.
- Permit #20250438832 is for 551 Stage Lane, where a nearby popcorn cart currently sits. It’s expected that this permit is related to clearing the area and readying it for new construction.
Both permits are valid for one year, giving us a rough timeline for when the area might be fully reimagined.
From Courtyard to Studio Lot: What’s Coming
Animation Courtyard will soon be reimagined as The Walt Disney Studios Lot, a brand-new area inspired by the real Disney Studios in Burbank, California. This overhaul isn’t just a fresh coat of paint—it’s a total reboot.

Here’s what to expect:
- Goodbye, Star Wars Launch Bay: The space that once served as home base for galactic meet-and-greets will be permanently closed to make room for a returning favorite…
- Hello Again, Magic of Disney Animation: Originally an opening day attraction, this beloved experience highlighted the real working animation studio that once produced films like Lilo & Stitch. The Florida studio closed in 2004, and the attraction eventually shuttered in 2015. But now, it’s coming back with a new spark, inviting guests to laugh, draw, and dream as they explore the art and magic of animation.
- Disney Jr. Play and Dance! Takes a Bow: The interactive toddler favorite will make way for a brand-new Disney Jr. show, though details on its replacement haven’t yet been revealed. Fingers crossed for Bluey?
Disney promises that the refreshed area will open in 2026, giving fans something exciting to look forward to as Hollywood Studios continues its evolution.
