Disney Repainting Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s Iconic Guitar—But It’s Still Muppet Time!

Get ready for some fresh paint and Muppet mayhem! Disney has officially filed a Notice of Commencement for a full repaint of the massive red guitar that has long welcomed guests to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While the ride is set for a major Muppets-themed reimagining, this latest development suggests that at least some elements of the ride’s exterior will remain intact—likely with a Muppet-y makeover!

A Fresh Coat for a Rockin’ Facade

The towering red guitar has been a signature feature of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster since its grand debut in 1999. The last time it received a fresh coat of paint was back in October 2021, and now, Disney is giving it another facelift as they prepare for the ride’s transformation. If Disney were planning major structural changes to the facade, it’s unlikely they would repaint the guitar, making this a strong indication that the overall entrance design will be modified rather than completely overhauled.

This aligns with what we already know about the Muppets’ takeover of the ride. Disney has confirmed that Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and friends are moving right along to Sunset Boulevard, where they’ll be headlining a rockin’ music festival featuring some of the biggest names in music. While the Aerosmith theming will be replaced, the general LA-based storyline of a high-speed adventure in a super-stretch limo seems to be staying put.

The Muppets Are Ready to Rock

When Disney first announced that The Muppets would be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, they promised a wild, music-filled adventure with new tunes, laughs, screams, and a whole lot of Muppets energy. As the first-ever Disney ride featuring The Muppets, fans can expect plenty of Easter eggs, wacky gags, and themed merchandise to celebrate the attraction’s new identity.

And for those wondering how The Muppets fit into this rock-and-roll setting, it actually makes perfect sense! The 2011 Muppets film took place in Los Angeles, making the Hollywood setting of the coaster a natural fit for Kermit and the gang.

Still Time to Ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

While Disney has not yet announced a closure date for the ride’s transformation, there’s still time to hop in a super-stretch limo and speed off to the Forum one last time before Aerosmith bids their final farewell. Meanwhile, over at Muppet*Vision 3D, fans can still enjoy their glorious three-hour finale (or, you know, about 17 minutes), prior to its closing date of June 7, 2025.

So, what do you think? Are you excited to see The Muppets take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? Or will you be rocking out with Aerosmith one last time before the big switch? Let us know in the comments!
