Walt Disney Imagineering has recently sought to extend a construction permit for the long-halted project, Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Initially set to expire in February 2024, this permit, known as Project 89, encompasses the construction of resort buildings, parking lots, and backstage areas. Citing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Imagineering has requested a five-year extension to complete the work.

Announced in 2018 and inspired by nature, Reflections was envisioned as a Disney Vacation Club resort occupying the former site of River Country near Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Despite its promising start and the demolition of River Country in 2019 to clear the site, the onset of the global pandemic in early 2020 brought construction to a near standstill. While subsequent permits, including one in 2021 for the removal of trailers, hinted at a possible cancellation of the project, the recent request for a significant extension breathes new life into the development plans.
