Disney World’s Lost & Found: A Magical Way to Give Back

Walt Disney World Resort, nearly twice the size of Manhattan, welcomes thousands of guests daily across its parks and hotels. With so many visitors, it’s no surprise that items are occasionally left behind. Fortunately, Disney has found a way to give these forgotten items a new life, benefiting local communities in Central Florida.

In honor of National Thrift Shop Day, it’s worth noting that Disney regularly donates unclaimed lost & found items—from strollers to Disney merchandise—to local nonprofit thrift shops. These donations not only reduce waste but also generate vital revenue, with 100% of proceeds supporting families in need.

Jamie Merrill, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, shared, “Disney donations account for the largest portion of revenue from a single donor. This support has an incredible impact on our organization and the 12,000 club members we serve.”

Disney’s generosity doesn’t stop there. The resort also donates unused merchandise, fabric, tech, and office supplies to nonprofits and schools. Teachers in Central Florida can even visit Disney’s “Costuming Vault” to select fabrics for school play costumes, bringing a touch of Disney magic to their performances.

Disney also repurposes retired entertainment equipment, like stage lights, donating them to schools in Orange and Osceola counties. Additionally, hundreds of school supplies are provided to A Gift for Teaching, a nonprofit that supplies classrooms with needed items.
