Disney Set to Eliminate 1,000 Jobs as Josh D’Amaro Era Begins
Per The Wall Street Journal, Disney is expected to eliminate 1,000 positions in the coming weeks. The move comes just as Josh D’Amaro assumes his new role, signaling a major organizational shift for the entertainment giant.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the entertainment giant is preparing to eliminate up to 1,000 positions in the coming weeks. This represents one of the first major organizational shifts since Josh D’Amaro assumed the role of CEO in March. A significant portion of these cuts is expected to impact the newly unified marketing division—an internal initiative codenamed ‘Project Imagine’—as the company seeks to streamline operations following the consolidation of its entertainment, experiences, and sports marketing under Chief Marketing Officer Asad Ayaz earlier this year.

Since Bob Iger initiated a sweeping reorganization upon his 2022 return, Disney’s workforce has been reduced by over 8,000 employees. Insiders noted that the current wave of layoffs was actually set in motion prior to Josh D’Amaro officially taking the helm. As of the end of the 2025 fiscal year, Disney employed approximately 231,000 people—with the vast majority (80%) stationed in the Experiences division—though the bulk of recent cuts have targeted the Entertainment, ESPN, and Corporate sectors.
Ultimately, D’Amaro’s success will be judged by his ability to revitalize Disney’s stock, which has struggled to regain its 2021 peak and currently sits near its valuation from ten years ago. As of now, Disney has not issued an official statement regarding these reported cuts.
