Disney Cruise Line Establishes Permanent Base in Galveston Starting 2027

Galveston, Texas is set to become a permanent homeport for Disney Cruise Line, with year-round operations commencing in 2027. This significant expansion, confirmed by Rodger Rees, Port Director and CEO of Galveston Wharves, marks a substantial upgrade from the seasonal sailings Disney has offered from the port for over a decade.

During a recent meeting of the Galveston City Council and Wharves Board, Rodger Rees, Port of Galveston Director and CEO, shared exciting news about the port’s future. He noted the significant growth in the Western Caribbean cruise market, stating, “The cruise business, as I mentioned, they’re expanding exponentially down here in [what] we call the Caribbean, the Western Caribbean. They’re putting a lot of money into that. Because of that, Disney is expanding to full-time here in Galveston starting in ’27,” as reported by the Houston Chronicle. This confirms Disney Cruise Line will establish a permanent, full-time presence in Galveston starting in 2027.

Currently, the Disney Magic is the sole Disney Cruise Line ship sailing out of Galveston, operating as a seasonal port for the company since 2012. However, Rees indicated that the transition to full-time operations would likely bring a larger Disney cruise ship to Galveston, rather than the Magic. This suggests Disney is committing a more substantial vessel to the port’s year-round service.

You can currently book Disney Cruise Line sailings departing from Galveston between November 2025 and April 2026. These itineraries feature stops in popular Western Caribbean destinations like Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Progreso, Mexico. For superhero fans, select sailings include a Marvel Day at Sea, while those looking to celebrate the holidays at sea can opt for “Very Merrytime” sailings with festive Christmas celebrations in November and December.

Looking ahead, Disney Cruise Line is poised for significant expansion, making it easier to establish new homeports. The fleet is growing rapidly, with two new ships launching later this year: the Disney Destiny will set sail from Port Everglades this November, followed by the Disney Adventure out of Singapore in December. These additions will bring Disney’s total fleet to eight ships, joining the already operational Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, Wish, and Treasure. This increased capacity provides Disney Cruise Line with greater flexibility to broaden its offerings and cater to more guests from various regions, like the newly announced full-time operations in Galveston.
