Disney Cruise Line Cancels Mexican Riviera Cruises

Passengers on the Disney Wonder for the Mexican Riviera cruises December 9, 16, 23, 30 (2012) have been cancelled. Passengers have been offered the option to re-book a cruise for one of the different itineraries on the other ships or accept a full refund.

That begs the question, “why?”. On the heels of the big “New Years” announcement…what else is Disney hiding? The official news from Disney Cruise Line is that there is no news, and when they are prepared to disclose the reasons for the cancellations they will do a press release. That’s far to boring for us here at Chip and Co. so we rounded up some rumors and speculation all on our own.

The Wonder recently had a dry dock and planning another dry dock during the busy holiday season doesn’t seem likely.

Has some monster conglomerate rented out the ship for those cruises? That would be one heck of a private holiday party!!! Again…to me, this doesn’t seem likely.

Is the Wonder going to surprise us and head in a different direction on these sail dates? If so, why tell the December cruisers that they can get a refund or rebook on a different ship if an alternate itinerary will be available for those sail dates? If there is going to be a new itinerary for the Wonder during those December sailings…where will they be? Hawaii would be a logical explanation since they have already added an additional Hawaii itinerary since they first made the announcement. That would be 2 Hawaii cruises since they are 14 or 15-nights. Could DCL be headed back to the Mediterranean? Maybe a little International sail and celebrate is in order for the holiday season?

The possibilities are endless but the fact of the matter is, until Disney Cruise Line wants to tell us what’s going on, we may never know. There is no doubt that Disney Cruise Line will have more flexibility than ever with four ships in the water and I’m sure there are surprises on the horizon!

What do you think is going to happen with the Disney Wonder during those four December dates?

  1. There is a lot of violence going on in Mexico it is not safe for travelers to travel there at all. I would venture to say that is the reason why.
