According to The Wall Street Journal the Walt Disney Company is considering a membership-type program that could offer discounts or special perks to encourage customers to spend more on its streaming services, theme parks, resorts, and merchandise.
The program would be similar to Amazon Prime for a monthly or annual membership fee. The name being thrown around is Disney Prime but expect that name to change if they do move forward with it.
“Technology is giving us new ways to customize and personalize the consumer experience so that we are delivering entertainment, experiences, and products that are most relevant to each of our guests,” said Kristina Schake, senior executive vice president and chief communications officer at Disney, in a statement. “A membership program is just one of the exciting ideas that are being explored.”
The Wall Street Journal also notes that Disney is working on a retail component to add to Disney+. Their goal is to Disney Merchandise through shopDisney exclusively for subscribers. This feature is likely to be introduced before the end of 2022.
Discussions for Disney Prime are in the early stages at this time.
