Hey there guys and gals Anonymouse here.
Have some interesting news today about those wonderful little keepsakes your Key to the World Card. While I know many of you hold on to yours from past trips, and probably like myself have a stack about 4 inches tall. Disney plans on doing away with our old pieces of plastic to make way for new RFID enabled cards. Which I believe are one step closer to the Disney Wristbands. (See below for more info)
I found this report over on the DIS.
Throughout 2012 and 2013, on-property resorts at Walt Disney World will be switching to a wireless door lock system. The new locks will work with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Guests’ Key to the World cards will allow access to the rooms like before, but instead of inserting the cards into the locks, guests will just need to tap the lock for the door to open. The cards still basically look the same, but the placement of the clouds and castle will be different. The new technology is already in place at the Art of Animation Resort, Contemporary Resort, BoardWalk Resort and Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. Guests will be seeing much more RFID technology in the future, as Disney will be implementing this in their upcoming “NextGen” program.
So chances are if you have stayed at any of the new resorts listed above you probably have one of these new cards. While these new cards do do not have the secrets to the Disney Parks, nor will they grant you super powers, they will hold your information and I am sure be used for much more in the near future, like those spiffy little bracelets they mentioned last year. Read about them in my previous article Disney Drops Keys to the World goes with Wristbands.
Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now.

We were just at Boardwalk Villas 3 weeks ago and I did not notice a difference in our keys – still needed to insert them in the lock. Maybe they haven’t changed over on the DVC side yet.
We actually got one of these new key cards at Beach Club two weeks ago and they changed our locks while we were at the park one day!
