Disney Confidential - Avatar gets a bump and Fastpass+ begins more testing

Here there guys and gals Anonymouse here.

Today’s interesting gossip comes to us from my 2nd home Walt Disney World.  I wish I was there now enjoying a Lapu Lapu drink while Chip massages my feet like the good cabana boy he is.. Just kidding I would not want to see him in a speedo..yuk.

Our first bit of Gossip talks about Disney’s Xpass Fastpass+. You know where you can pay to reserve times on rides months in advance sorta like an ADR, but for rides. If you want more deals read about it here. The news now is Disney is again TESTING the Xpass Fastpass+ system for selected guests via email. They are sending out special emails asking people to select rides they think they might be interested in riding on their upcoming vacations. So if your unlucky you might be getting an email from Disney asking you to test out this new service.

As many of you know I am not a big fan of this. I believe this is overkill and spoils the magic of visiting the parks. I understand it’s intent which is to:

  • Help Disney make more money
  • Help alleviate some of the crowds at the parks
  • Did I mention making more money?

But keep in mind opening up another park either in the US or Brazil would accomplish the same goal. This is one of the few times I would have to agree with Chip that the parks are becoming Too Crowded! While I do enjoy some planning I think you are over complicating your vacation if you are planning where to eat and what to ride for your entire stay. What do you think?

Next up is some news I loathe as much as Xpass and that is Avatarland. It seems Disney and James Cameron have frozen the project due to creative differences. Thank God! I think Disney really needs to focus on bringing the success of Carsland to Disney World instead of launching out into Avatarland.  Heck I would even be fine with getting a Marvel presence at the parks.

I want to hear what you think. Let me know in the comment box below or on Facebook.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. I do not like the new fast pass system they are rolling out! I hate tpo be committed to things on a vaca like Disney so I wouldnt be in on it nor would i pay more for it. Plsu sure these other people pay and now thats less available fast passes for the regular folk. As far as Avatar land well Id choose a WDW carsland over Avatar land but I still would have loved Avatar land!

  2. About XPass: I think it will kill the market and magic for local residents. The whole point of being able to go to the parks anytime you want is to ride/experience your favorite attractions. I wouldn’t want to go if I couldn’t ride my favorite or had to wait extra long because 500 people preplanned to ride it. That being said, some people just feel the need to plan every detail and to make sure little Johnny gets to ride the exact rides he wants or *gasp* the vacation might be ruined.

About Avatarland: I hated this idea from the start. I am a firm believer in AK remaining a zoo so I would love to see more real animals added. A really nice North American or South American section to rival the other large sections would be awesome.

  3. I hope Disney will change their mind about Avatarland, by this I mean forget the project entirely. Especially after I did some research on Beastly Kingdom (the original mythology section planned for Animal Kingdom). I feel Disney has more to gain from that than Avatar.

  4. I wish they’d go back to their original idea for the extra land in AK. They were originally planning a fantasy land, that’s why there is a parking lot called dragon and possibly unicorn if I remember correctly. That would make great sense to me, don’t know why they abandoned it in the first place. Oh and this Xpass thing is so ridiculous you don’t even want to get me started! LOL!

  5. I heard from a CM that there is a meeting tonight to update them on changes coming to HS. Yay! I disliked the thought of Avatarland as well. Scheduling meals bothered me enough, we just stuck with QS for now, but scheduling when to ride? Come on! Some people will miss out completely now, let’s face it TSM is difficult on a good day, with preplanning no one will get to ride it unless you book way in advance! What if a meal goes over, then you miss your scheduled ride time. If you are tired, god forbid you sleep in to rest a bit, you have dining and ride reservations you must keep! I love Disney, but all this excess planning in advance is killing some of the magic for me.

  6. Xpass stresses me out! How am I supposed to decided what ride we will want to ride that far out?? I mean, I plan like crazy, and even plan what rides when. But it is just an idea…we change that plan over and over again during our trips! Oh well, I suppose if it does get put into effect that we will figure it out! 🙂

  7. I hope the rumor is true as Avatar has no place at Disney, particularly in Animal Kingdom. The funny thing is that a Pocahontas themed Native American land would be a perfect fit for AK. And if Disney wants to compete with Harry Potter, they could build a Percy Jackson land in the Studios. I think a whole section filled with greek mythology based attractions would be a great fit for Disney and educational for kids.
