Disney Chefs Share this Thanksgiving Recipe Used to Serve Those in Need

Thanksgiving is only a day away and Disney chefs are sharing a special Thanksgiving recipe! If you love pecan pie then you will love this recipe.

What makes this recipe so special this time of year is that Disney chefs use one just like this to make the pecan pies served at Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida on Thanksgiving Day as part of a tradition 25 years in the making.

The culinary team at Walt Disney World cooks up hundreds of traditional Thanksgiving meals each year that Disney VoluntEARS then serve to Coalition for the Homeless residents for an extra special dinner filled with Disney magic. The meal is filled with all the traditional dishes, which of course includes dessert.

“Giving is who we are as part of the Disney family. We believe that everything we do to make magic can also make a difference, which is what I see happening when we provide Thanksgiving meals to those in need in our Central Florida community,” said Walt Disney World Culinary Director Gregg Hannon. “We all might have a different interpretation of Thanksgiving, but gratitude is something that we all have in common. As a culinarian working at Disney for 26 years, I am extremely proud to work for a company and be part of a team that gives back in such an important way.”

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 refrigerated 9-inch pie crust, or your favorite homemade pie crust
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • Pecan halves for decorating (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Whisk together sugar and flour in a medium bowl. Add corn syrups and eggs, mixing thoroughly. Add heavy cream and stir to combine.
    Refrigerate 1 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch pie plate. Crimp edges to desired design. Set aside.
  3. Arrange chopped pecans in bottom of crust and carefully pour in chilled filling. Decorate perimeter of pie with pecan halves, if desired.
  4. Place pie on a baking sheet and bake in center of oven until filling is set and slightly puffed, about 55 minutes. Cover edges of crust with aluminum foil halfway through baking to prevent burning
  5. Cool before serving.
