Disney CEO Promises Marvel Will Continue to Make R-Rated Films

Good news, Marvel fanatics! No characters will have to have their mouths washed out with soap. Disney CEO promises Marvel will keep making R-rated movies like “Deadpool”.

In previous years, the Walt Disney Company has appreciated a clean image as the unmatched provider of family entertainment. That being said, things may get a lot more adult-friendly with the upcoming purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and TV assets.

This $71.3 billion purchase will bring grown-up brands like FX and Fox Searchlight in the Disney world. This merger also means that Fox’s R-Rated Marvel characters like Deadpool and Logan will be reunited with the Avengers, who have kept in the PG-13 parameters.

Disney Chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, said that Disney plans to continue making R-rated movies like Deadpool and other Marvel adventures after it absorbs the large portion of Fox.

On a call with investors, Iger stated, “ We will continue in that business. There’s certainly popularity,” with those types of films.

Iger also hinted that these upcoming films will not be released under the Marvel or Disney banner. The company plans to make an effort to clearly brand the movies as R-rated to not confuse the consumer.
