New Disney ‘Celebrates America’ Holiday Special Coming to ABC & Streaming
A massive bi-coastal celebration is coming to your screens this summer. ABC News Studios and 20/20 are teaming up to bring us “Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness,” a spectacular two-hour primetime event.
Hosted by 20/20 co-anchor Deborah Roberts live from Walt Disney World Resort and ABC News national correspondent Will Reeve from Disneyland Resort, this coast-to-coast special uses beloved Disney Parks and attractions as a portal to celebrate America’s greatest stories, triumphs, and traditions.
Mark your calendars! The two-hour special premieres Monday, June 29, on ABC from 8:00–10:00 p.m. EDT.
If you miss the live broadcast, don’t worry! You can stream it the very next day on Disney+ and Hulu. Plus, ABC will air an encore broadcast on Friday, July 3, from 8:00–10:00 p.m. EDT, making it the perfect kickoff to your Independence Day weekend.
From the turn-of-the-century nostalgia of Main Street, U.S.A. to the neon-lit open roads of Cars Land, “Disney Celebrates America” will take viewers on a journey through true tales of American innovation and culture. Here is a sneak peek at what the special will explore:
- Toy Story Land: Marvel at the creation of some of the most iconic, American-made toys that shaped generations of childhood memories.
- A Celebration of Hawaii: 26-year-old Hawaiian surfing superstar Moana Jones Wong shares a deeply personal look at the 50th state’s unique culture and community.
- Protecting Our Oceans: National Geographic Explorer-at-Large Dr. Sylvia Earle—affectionately known as the “Joan of Arc of the Seas”—discusses her pioneering ocean conservation efforts.
- The Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll: Travel back in time to New Orleans’ legendary J&M Recording Studio alongside the multitalented Jon Batiste.
- The Golden Age of Travel & Hollywood: Discover how Pan Am crafted a uniquely American identity in the skies, explore the rise of the automobile industry, and step into the allure of old Hollywood at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre to look at the legacy of Marilyn Monroe.
- America’s Pastime: ESPN’s Wide World of Sports chronicles the evolution of baseball, celebrating the incredible athleticism, showmanship, and history of America’s Black ballplayers, featuring a spotlight on the viral sensation Savannah Bananas!
- To the Moon and Beyond: Look back at ABC News’ historic 30 hours of continuous coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, while looking ahead to the future of space exploration.
