Disney Begins Casting Background Extras for ‘Aquamarine’ Spinoff Series

An Aquamarine spinoff is officially in the works at Disney Branded Television, and if you live in North Carolina—or are willing to travel—you might just have a chance to star in it! Disney is currently preparing to return to the world of the beloved 2006 fantasy comedy, and local residents have an exciting opportunity to appear as background extras in the upcoming television pilot.

Working under the title Saltwater, the Disney+ pilot is set to film key scenes along the North Carolina coast, and local casting agency TW Cast & Recruit has issued an open casting call for background performers.

Set 20 years after the original film, the new series follows a teenager who discovers her mother was a mermaid, setting off a magical summer filled with first love, new friendships, and navigating her own half-mermaid identity. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (who directed the original 2006 Aquamarine movie), the production will be shooting in Kure Beach and Southport, North Carolina.

The latest official casting notice covers filming scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026, in Kure Beach. The production is seeking athletic background actors who are comfortable working on location at the beach in swimwear for four specific groups:

• Fun Active Adults (Ages 30s–50s): Open to all genders and ethnicities. Performers should be active, athletic, and comfortable wearing swimsuits on the beach.
• Capri Club Beach Servers (Ages 18–Early 30s): Open to all genders and ethnicities. Applicants must have no tattoos visible while wearing short sleeves and shorts. Previous serving experience is helpful, but not required.
• Capri Club Snack Bar Manager (Age 18): Male or female, with no visible tattoos in short sleeves and shorts.
• Beach Teens (Ages 14–18): Open to all genders and ethnicities. Must be comfortable spending the day on the beach in swimwear.

Each background role pays $96 for up to eight hours of work. However, prospective extras should keep in mind that filming days can easily stretch to 12 hours or longer, with call times starting as early as 5:00 AM or running late into the evening.

Selected performers will receive detailed call times, wardrobe instructions, and exact filming locations the day prior to shooting.
