Disney Book Group to Publish Book about Einstein, the World’s Smallest Stallion

Disney Book Group announced today that it will publish a photographic picture book about the miracle of Einstein—the smallest horse ever born—and his search for a perfect friend. The agreement for North American rights was negotiated by Stephanie Owens Lurie, Editorial Director, Disney-Hyperion, an imprint of Disney Book Group, and Cheryl Pientka of Grinberg Literary. The book is scheduled for publication in April 2011, just in time to celebrate Einstein’s first birthday.

A Friend for Einstein: The Smallest Stallion, written by Einstein’s owners, Charles Cantrell and Dr. Rachel Wagner, celebrates the unique size and personality of the mini miniature horse. Cantrell also contributed all of the photographs that appear in the book.

“Readers big and small will fall in love with Einstein,” said Lurie. “We’re excited to have this opportunity to share his heartwarming story with the world.”

Einstein was born weighing less than a cat and standing as tall as a cereal box. Thousands of people made pilgrimage to a small town in New Hampshire to pay homage to the little colt in the days immediately following his birth. Since then Einstein has become known and loved the world over, with more than million hits on YouTube, articles in national and international papers, and numerous appearances on national television. Charles and Rachel will donate a portion of the proceeds for the book to the ASPCA’s Equine Fund.

Rachel Wagner, M.D., M.Ed. is a family practice physician with a master’s degree in special education. An avid horsewoman, Dr. Wagner started riding at age five, when she met a woman named Judy Smith. Judy is the person who first introduced Dr. Wagner to miniature horses and ultimately bred the pair of horses that produced Einstein, the mini horse.

Charles Cantrell is a freelance writer and photographer who has traveled the globe capturing the beauty and mystique of nature. Mr. Cantrell maintains a wild animal sanctuary on his 105-acre estate in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
