Disney begins talks with Unions on requiring Vaccines for all Cast Members

Disney recently announced that all of its salaried and non-union hourly Cast Members in the U.S. would be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Now the company is in talks with unions to require all cast members be vaccinated.

The health and safety of employees has always been a top priority for Disney. Now, it seems the company wants to extend that health and safety reach.

Unite Here Local 362 president Eric Clinton told the Orlando Sentinel that Disney wants to bargain with the union about mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations. United Here Local 362 represents 9,000 attractions and custodial workers at Walt Disney World. Clinton also said that union members have been surveyed and there is support for everyone getting vaccinated.

Unions representing cast members at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World have posted on Facebook regarding the COVID-19 vaccination talks. The posts are pretty vague, however. Workers United Local 50, a Disneyland union, posted the following:

“COVID UPDATE 7/30
Disney has announced it will require all salary and non-union hourly employees to vaccinate. We will begin conversations with Disney regarding mandatory vaccination of Union members in the coming weeks. We will keep everyone posted as this develops.
In solidarity,
Chris Duarte
Workers United Local 50 Vice President”

A union representing Walt Disney World cast members, Local 737, also shared a message on Facebook:

“We have seen Disney’s statement regarding mandatory vaccination for salaried and non-union employees. We will meet with Disney next week to discuss how this policy will apply to unionized employees. We will post information for union members here as soon as we have it.”

Keep in mind, as of right now only salaried and non-union cast members are required to get the vaccine. Union cast members and guests are not being asked to show proof of vaccination at either of the U.S. Disney theme park resorts.

What do you think of this new requirement for Disney employees?
