Fans at the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, along with over 1.3 million concurrent Fortnite players, were treated to exciting news: Disney and Epic Games are teaming up to bring beloved Disney characters into the Fortnite universe. This collaboration, which aims to merge the magic of Disney with the immersive world of Fortnite, promises to create a groundbreaking entertainment experience where fans can watch, play, and even craft their own adventures.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro took the stage at the event, joined by key creative leaders from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios. These storytellers shared their vision for the future of entertainment within this new universe, highlighting how this collaboration with Epic Games will push the boundaries of storytelling and gaming. Fans watching in Fortnite were able to engage with the showcase live on the specially created Disney Horizons island, featuring stunning visual effects and interactive elements made possible by Epic’s Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
The first wave of Disney content coming to Fortnite includes iconic characters from some of the most beloved franchises. Jennifer Lee, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, unveiled that Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook will make their debut in Fortnite later this Fall. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, also teased the arrival of The Incredibles, marking Pixar’s first foray into the Fortnite universe. Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni revealed that Star Wars fans can expect to see characters like IG-11, Moff Gideon, and a new Grogu Back Bling in the game starting next week.
Marvel Studios, no stranger to Fortnite crossovers, made a big splash with the announcement of Fortnite Battle Royale’s Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom. Set to launch on August 16, this new season will feature the notorious Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom, continuing the Marvel story with action-packed gameplay and new locations to explore. The reveal was accompanied by a cinematic and gameplay trailer, showcasing the origins of this thrilling new season.
