Director James Gunn Reconfirms ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3‘ Will Begin Filming This Year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1-3 Director James Gunn is quite active on Twitter, especially during the pandemic, and frequently does pop-up Q+A’s with fans online to share updates on his recent and upcoming work. This week, James responded to a question asking when the next Guardians of the Galaxy film will begin filming, which he confirmed would begin “This year.”

Currently, members of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast are in Australia filming for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, but it seems the cast will have minimal downtime before returning to the studio to film the highly anticipated Guardians film.
