Could Disney World Limit Resort Hopping This Holiday Season? Here’s What We Know

Could this year’s holiday season at Walt Disney World come with a major change for one of guests’ favorite traditions? A line tucked into Disney’s newly released holiday guide has sparked speculation that resort hopping during the Christmas season could become more restricted, but for now, there’s no official policy change.

The discussion centers around wording in Disney Parks Blog’s 2026 holiday announcement describing the festive decorations at Disney Resort hotels. The post specifically notes that the holiday décor is available “for guests staying at the resorts or for those with valid dining reservations.” That phrasing has caught the attention of longtime Disney fans who enjoy visiting multiple resorts to admire Christmas trees, gingerbread displays, and seasonal decorations, even when they aren’t staying at those hotels.

The concern isn’t completely without precedent. Disney has temporarily limited access to certain resorts during especially busy holiday periods in the past. Most notably, access to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was restricted during New Year’s Eve celebrations, allowing entry only to resort guests and visitors with confirmed dining reservations. However, Disney has not announced any similar restrictions for the 2026 holiday season, and the language included in the holiday guide may simply be referencing who can most easily enjoy the resort offerings rather than signaling a new access policy.

Disney has, however, implemented restrictions on bus transportation recently in an apparent attempt to crack down on visitors attempting to park at Disney Springs and utilize resort transportation to avoid paying for parking at the theme parks. Based on this wording, the crackdown may not solely be about ensuring guests are paying for parking, but also to reserve the experience for the guests paying to stay on property.

At this point, nothing has officially changed. Guests can still look forward to the return of holiday traditions across Walt Disney World beginning November 13, including festive décor at the resort hotels, the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, Disney Jollywood Nights, and much more. We’ll be keeping an eye on Disney for any clarification as the holiday season approaches, but for now, resort hopping remains a cherished holiday tradition that has not officially been altered.
