During their safari adventure, the team observed a variety of wildlife, such as hippos, lions, zebras, elephants, and giraffes. The highlight of their visit was an encounter with Disney’s newest resident, Bakso, a critically endangered Sumatran tiger cub. This meeting held special significance, marking the Detroit Tigers’ official interaction with the tigers and underscoring the park’s commitment to connecting guests with wildlife.

At nearly six months old, Bakso continues to grow alongside his mother, Sohni, on the Maharajah Jungle Trek. The tiger duo has become a popular attraction, often seen playfully pouncing and prowling in their habitat. The Tigers’ visit coincided with one of these playful displays. With fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Bakso serves as an important ambassador for his species, helping to raise global awareness about their plight.

Disney collaborates with organizations like the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Species Survival Plan (SSP) to support endangered species. Bakso’s birth is a testament to Disney’s partnership with the AZA in efforts to strengthen the critically endangered Sumatran tiger population and its genetic diversity.
