Walt Disney World is turning 50 in 2021 and is anticipated to be the biggest anniversary ever! The celebration will be extended to all four theme parks and not only include new attraction openings, but also, new food and beverage, merchandise, entertainment, and more.
Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek, revealed today, at D23 Expo 2019, what’s to come with exciting new guest offerings for the 50th Anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort and beyond.
Here’s a breakdown of what is coming:
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which is an all-new, first-of-its-kind, vacation experience coming to the Walt Disney World Resort. Guests will check-in for a minimum two-night immersive adventure aboard an elegant starship and immediately be transported to another galaxy that includes interaction with characters and participation in different stories.
Once aboard the starcruiser, adults and children alike can wield a lightsaber and face off against a training remote just like Luke Skywalker did when he was learning to use the force.
Epcot will be undergoing a multi-year transformation, with big plans to make the park more Disney. The park will have four neighborhoods, each with a unique aspect of Epcot. The World Showcase will retain its name and its traditional celebration of culture, cuisine, and architecture, while Future World will be separated into three new neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature.
In the World Celebration area of Epcot, Spaceship Earth will remain the park’s main icon but will be transformed on the inside with new scenes, a new guide, and all-new narration that focuses on bringing people together.
Dreamers Point will also be featured in the World Celebration of Epcot, with breathtaking views, a wishing tree, lush gardens, a new interactive fountain, and a brand new statue celebrating the original dreamer, Walt Disney.
Also, in the World Celebration area of Epcot, a new pavilion will be the home to Epcot’s signature festivals. It will be a three-level structure providing an ideal spot to watch the nighttime spectacular and a stunning view of the world showcase. This pavilion will be a design like no other.
In the World Discovery area of Epcot, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, is a roller-coaster that will include the first reverse launch into space! This family-friendly attraction features a never-before-seen storytelling coaster that rotates to focus on the action, wherever it may be.
Space 220, which is an expansion of the Mission: Space pavilion, is a new restaurant that is set to open this winter. This new culinary experience includes a celestial panorama of the space station and includes daytime and nighttime views 220 miles up from Earth.
In the World Showcase, you’ll take a walk down Cherry Tree Lane, with the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins, which will be included in the United Kingdom pavilion as a brand new neighborhood.
“Wondrous China”, a completely seamless 360-degree digital format film, will be located in the China pavilion, and take guests on a journey across China.
“Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360” debuts in January 2020 in the Canada pavilion with a new story and new scenes.
The France pavilion will be adding an all-new “Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along” in January 2020, and in summer 2020, the highly-anticipated Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will open along with a new restaurant called La Crêperie de Paris.
In the World Nature area of Epcot, a brand new experience called Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” will let guests interact will magical, living water. This is a special first-ever experience that takes place in a beautiful and inspiring setting.
In the Land pavilion, the new film, “Awesome Planet“, will debut in January 2020 and will showcase the beauty, diversity, and dynamic story of the planet in World Nature.
After the limited time run of the fireworks show, Epcot Forever, the new nighttime spectacular called HarmoioUS, will be the largest ever fireworks show created for a Disney park and celebrate how the music of Disney inspires people around the globe.
The newly themed Chinese Theater was revealed at the D23 Expo which is home to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and will open in spring 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
You will be transported inside the world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon in this first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction where anything can happen.
Disney Genie, also planning to debut in late 2020, is an all-new planning tool to help guests customize their itineraries based on what they want to experience; from princesses to thrill-seekers and everything in between. This app will help guests plan their optimal day by telling the Genie what they want to experience.
The new proposed Disney Vacation Club resort will be called Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge and will be inspired by the wonders of nature and artistry of Walt Disney.
The new TRON attraction at the Magic Kingdom parked will be called TRON Lightcycle Run. This attraction allows guests to board two-wheeled Lightcycles and experience TRON’s high-tech universe.
Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios have joined with Cirque du Soleil for the first time to create the first-ever mash of Cirque du Soleil’s artistry and Disney storytelling. On March 20, 2020, previews will begin which will lead up to the world premiere on April 17.
These announcements are one for the books as this will be the most growth and expansion that Disney has ever seen at one time.
