Bob Chapek, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman, announced today, at the D23 Expo 2019, the highly anticipated name of the fifth Disney Cruise Line ship. Also released was the ship’s iconic Disney character that will adorn the stern and a first glimpse of the lavish atrium. That’s not all, Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde joined Bob and shared Disney’s second island destination in The Bahamas.
The fifth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet will be named Disney Wish.
It’s fitting as Disney makes wishes come true, not only in their many stories but in the lives of people around the world.
The ship’s atrium will be as beautiful and elegant as a fairytale. As tradition on all of the Disney ships, the stern will be home to a Disney iconic character that reflects the theme of the ship. The Disney Wish will feature none other than Rapunzel on the stern. Her artsy personality is captured as she is decorating the ship’s stern, all while being suspended by her magical hair. All Rapunzel wished for was to experience the world, and that is why she was chosen to be the icon for the Disney Wish.
The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and will set sail on January 2022. This vessel will join Disney’s award-winning fleet and transport guests to magical beaches and fun destinations. The three new ships will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy housing 1,250 guest staterooms, be powered by liquefied natural gas, and weigh approximately 144,000 gross tons.
Also included with this announcement was a second destination in The Bahamas. This new breathtaking destination is located on the island of Eleuthera called Lighthouse Point.
Joe Rhode, who worked on Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, embarked on a cultural tour of the Bahamas. He pointed out that Disney will be directly involved in the conservation efforts and will work with local artists to create a magical destination rooted in Bahamian culture. It is Disney’s priority to preserve and protect the environment.
Construction on Lighthouse Point will begin after the plans are reviewed and accepted by the Government of the Bahamas. Construction could begin in 2020 with completion in late 2022 or 2023.
With the Disney Cruise Line fleet expanding by three ships, there are so many things to look forward to while cruising on the high seas, especially a new destination in the Bahamas.
