Daddy & Daughter Review of Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two

Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, the sequel to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Disney Epic Mickey” video game. Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for Wii U™ is now available for digital download in the Nintendo eShop and for purchase at retailers nationwide for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and for the Wii™ and Wii U™ systems from Nintendo.  In addition “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion,” the first Nintendo 3DS™ title for “Disney Epic Mickey”, is also available at retailers nationwide and for download in the Nintendo eShop.

When I originally sat down to play Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two I was going to hit it up solo like I normally do. Then I remembered when I was out in Disneyland for the Epic Mickey 2 event, Disney was nice enough to give me some goodies to bring home. As you can see in the picture above I received the Oswald Remote and the Mickey Paintbrush. So I figured why not do a Daddy & Daughter review of Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two, I mean both Mickey and Oswald are finally together so why not?

After some tough bargaining and promises of ice cream after dinner I got to use the Epic Mickey Paint Brush and she used the Oswald Remote. Since she is only 6 so I think the remote was a little more forgiving than the brush so that worked out better.

We both loved the opening movie. I don’t like to include spoilers in my reviews but I think Disney really needs to make a full fledged movie out of the Epic Mickey storyline. I wanted to go get some popcorn and watch it. We were both in awe on how good it looked even on the Wii.

The introduction of Oswald who is now playable and talks was a Home Run! I don’t think they could have picked a better actor to play him. All of the voice acting was spot on and made for an enjoyable game. Also the subtitles at the bottom of the screen was a nice touch.

Gameplay was fun and I love how the tutorial was worked into the game. Again there were some moments where the camera didn’t want to keep up with the characters on screen. It was no where near as bad as it was in Epic Mickey 1 but it did take a little bit to get used to. Also due to my daughters age it did take some finesse to do the character combos together. I think a more experienced gamer wouldn’t have the trouble we did but it’s just really cool to see them work off each other like they do.

Overall Epic Mickey is a lot of fun for all ages. Right now we can only play it on the weekends so it is going to keep us very busy for awhile. The inclusion of park favorites is a highlight for me while all the character interactions is what she likes best.

I will say this the game is challenging and does require you to think. There were a few times where we we’re left scratching our heads trying to figure out what to do in a specific area. It was refreshing as many games now a days are either adventure or puzzle games but I feel Disney did a great job bringing those both together in this game.

I think this would a fun stocking stuffer for adults, Disney Addicts, and little ones ages 6 and up. It is nowhere near as dark as the last game so parents can feel safe letting little ones play this as long as they can do many of the basic functions on the Wii.

Epic Mickey 2 The Power of two and Epic Mickey Power of Illusion is out now for all game systems even the all new Wii U. Check it out today!

If you had the chance to play this let me know what you thought in the comment box below.

Special thank you to Disney for letting us check out this great game! And for some great family bonding video game time!
