I don’t quite understand the fascination with Crocs.
- Are they rubber?
- Are they plastic?
- Do you wear them at the pool?
- Are they ok to wear around town?
- Why do they Smell So Bad?
- Can you wear them in a boat?
- Do they really float?
- Do you wear them in the house?
- Why are there holes that look like they have been chewed by a mouse?
How can there be so many questions about one little shoe?
Last time we were at Walt Disney World I did a little test. Just for the heck of it I decided to check out everyone’s footwear. I noticed that about 30-40% of people were in Flip Flops/Sandals. Ugh…Walking on pavement all day in flip-flops for 5-10 miles will do a number on your back. Not to mention how tired you will be at the end of the day. (check out this article for more)
I would say around 20-30% of the people were in walk or running shoes. Good Choice guys! One of my most important tips when visiting the park is Wear Comfortable Shoes like a good walking or running shoe.
I saw like 10% of some women wearing high heels. Which to me is crazy.
Leaving the remaining percentage of people wearing..you guess it Crocs.
While I am not doubting they are comfortable shoes and there is scientific reports backing that up. I have read that some Crocs shoes were tested and recommended by the U.S. Ergonomics company in 2005 and were accepted by the American Podiatric Medical Association in 2009. Also in 2008, the U.S. government Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved a model of Crocs with molded insoles as diabetic footwear, to help wearers avoid foot injuries.
What my main problem with crocs is “the look.” I mean they are so ugly! I am not talking fanny pack ugly. I mean they are fall down the Ugly Tree ugly. What’s with the holes? I am not a big fan of swiss cheese and walking around with shoes with holes in them isn’t really my thing.
There are countless websites that are against the Croc. I hate Crocs, Say No To Crocs, and many more. It has even gotten so bad that many work places are banning crocs.
So what is with the fascination with them?
- Is is just because they are so darn cheap? We bought out 5 year old 2 pairs at Target for $10.
- Is it the comfort? I have a nice pair of Sketchers Shape Ups that are super comfortable.
- Is it the how stylish you feel wearing them.. Haha yeah right..lol
Whatever the reason may be I guess I will never know as I have never tried on or will ever purchase a pair of Crocs.
So what do you think are you a fan of Crocs at Walt Disney World? Or do you like me and say Just Say No!

I am not against Crocs, exactly. I have never owned a pair for myself, just can’t bring myself to buy them, I am simply a flip flop girl through and through. However, my daughter has a pair and it is almost all she wears all summer, and I’m ok with that.
As for me, if I’m going to do something that requires “comfortable” shoes, I will go straight to tennis shoes (which in the summer is not often). Who needs Crocs if you have two good footwear option already.
As far as Disney goes – You should wear tennis shoes.
Anyways – That’s just my humble opinion on the matter. But hey, to each their own, right?
Crocs are extremely comfortable. I have a daughter with wide feet, they fit her perfectly whereas other shoes don’t. Please stop judging people on what works for them.
Great for the kids….comfy, easy to put on, and who cares if they get wet!
My husband and I always wear well broken in walking or running shoes with moisture wicking socks. I cannot imagine wearing crocs there. We have a crocs outlet 5 minutes away from us and I have never been in there.
LOVE Croc sandals for the parks. Usually go with a two strap pair across the top of the foot, they seem to stay in place better. Can’t wear the toe thong style. Feet stay cool and my back and knees feel great at the end of the day.
I am a croc girl!!ALL I wear is crocs, I have them in a bunch of colors.I have tried every kind of sneaker out there, non of them measure up to the crocs!I personally don’t care what others think about what I am wearing on my feet, I would rather be comfy than fashionable any day!!!So many people say they sweat in them, heres something I do, I spray my feet with spray deoderant, bam, no sweating!!:O)I love how if they get wet, they dry really quick, and to those who say there slippery, place a pc of duck tape on the bottoms, bam, instant tread!:O) Mine have never stunk..lol! If I am wearing pants, the socks are going on,croc brand makes such comfy socks!!!:O)
I agree traditional crocs are bad, but I love my croc flip flops. It is like walking on a cloud all day long. They are not nearly as ugly, or ugly at all, and are just as comfortable.
1. What you bought at Target were not Crocs-they were cheap knockoffs. Target doesn’t sell Crocs.
2. I used to think they were ugly until I bought a pair. They are sooooo comfortable. I now own Crocs RX, Mickey Crocs and 2 pairs of Croc flip flops.
3. I have plantar faceitis and even with my orthotics I could no longer spend a full day walking the parks…until I discovered Crocs RX. Now I can walk for miles and miles and at $40 a pair they are a lot more affordable than my $200 orthotic sneakers.
4. Don’t knock them unless you’ve tried them.
We have mickey/minnie crocs. I dont hate them. with that being said they are good to go to the pool only. They will not stay on your feet on all of the rides and do you really want to lose a shoe mid vacation? also they are not good for your body to do all that walking in them. Sneakers are the way to go unless you are at the water parks where id say they were ok but water shoes would be better
I used to wait tables and crocs were my footwear of choice (wish they made them in steel toed with medatarsals for my job at the steel mill..although I guess plastic shoes in a hot mill….not such a good idea..lol) I HATED the way they looked but eventually found some that were not as bad.I even found some NFL ones for the boys. I never believed they could be comfy, all I kept thinking were the jelly shoes from the 80’s that gave me horrible blisters. They are the most comfortable shoes I own and I have gotten my hubby on the croc bandwagon. I do however wear running shoes (who am I kidding I haven’t ran since middle school) to amusement parks. Disney it isn’t such a big deal but we go on the rides with your feet dangling and I’m not a fan of taking my shoes off to go on a ride, so tie shoes it is!
Yes. The traditional Crocs are very ugly. The ones I have are the clog style but don’t have any holes. They are still uglier than homemade sin. But it doesn’t matter. I no longer suffer from plantar fasciitis since I have been wearing them. Not one flare up since I put them on my feet in 2008. So, you can mock me all you want and tell me just how ugly I look in them, but I really don’t give a big rat’s ass what others think. What I care about is being able to enjoy Disney World without being in pain. And I think the judgmental people need to be more concerned about enjoying Disney than worrying about what others are wearing.
I fought them for a LONG time, then I caved. I am not a huge fan of the clogs, they are too loose on my feet and I wind up tripping over them. I own a pair of Crocs sandals, which the no longer make 🙁 Both of the pairs I have bought are now broken. I wore them out! I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii, after a severe ankle injury, and I wore them everywhere. I even hiked Diamond Head in them! I missed them this past trip to Disney, I need to switch out my sneakers half way through the day (ankle injury still bothers me) and I couldn’t find anything to wear 🙁
Crocs cheap? Honey – if you got them @ Target for $10 for your kid, those are “Kibbets” (I think) and they are the value brand from Crocs. But authentic Crocs from the website or the crocs stores are NOT cheap! And this is because they are AWESOME!!!! So worth it!
And as far as the “look” – get yourself some Jibbetz (sp?) and jazz ’em up! *My black ones are all PIRATE themed, w/Jack Sparrow and friends, my Pink ones are Princess themed jibbetz, my tan ones are the Fab 5 and my Bright Fuchia ones are other favorite disney characters! BE CREATIVE and stop being so judgmental!
**Dont judge a man until you’ve walked a mile in HIS Crocs!!!**
I’m always confused as to why other people are so concerned about other people’s footwear. Seriously? So what if someone is wearing flipflops or heals or even Crocs? Are they trying to force you to wear them too? If not, move on with your life.
I have tried many other shoes, and my toes go numb with every other kind of shoe, except Crocs. I could care less if other people think they are ugly, being able to walk is more important to me.
I think the original Crocs design is ugly and I refused to buy a pair until my wife wouldn’t stop going on about how comfortable they were. I tried a pair and now wear them almost exclusively. I have some that nobody can tell are Crocs that I wear to work. My winter boot are Crocs and are the most comfortable and warm I have ever owned. I take both Crocs and running shoes to Disney and find if one is making my feet hurt at the end of the day I switch to the other the next day and find my feet feel better. Foot wear is really something that is a personal choise. I have seen many shoes, even in traditional running shoes, work shoes, etc, that look ridiculous to me. As long as they are comfortable for the person wearing them then who am I to judge their choice.
My mom & I got our first Crocs specifically for our WDW trip in 2006. They were so comfortable & my feet didn’t hurt at the end of the day. I liked that I could get them wet on Splash Mountain & Kali River Rapids & they were dry within minutes. My mom liked that they didn’t bother her bunions. They have become my everyday shoe ever since. I even have a pair of Crocs snow boots. I love the different colors they come in & the holes are made for decorating. I have Mickey & friends on one set of Crocs, Pooh & friends on another & turtles, frogs & ice cream cones on yet another. I even have a pair of Disney Crocs that have Mickey ears as the holes. LOVE my Crocs.
My daughter and I have wide flat feet. Crocs fit us better than any other shoes. On top of that, Crocs has MANY cute stylish designs, not just the plastic clogs. I love Crocs sandals, I live in them during the summer. I plan on taking my Crocs flip flops when I go to WDW in April.
We bought our Mickey Mouse Crocs AT Walt Disney World! How funny you are.
I am in agreement: Crocs are UGLY. But REAL Crocs – not any imitation – are comfortable. I have owned several different brands and the ONLY one that is comfy for longer than a little while are the actual crocs. BUT beware Disney go-ers….do NOT buy a new pair of Crocs the morning before you are going to Disney and expect to come away blister-free. My whole family did this and we were all in PAIN by the 3rd hour of the new shoes. This was a result of not knowing “the shoe”….I have several pairs of Crocs – 2 pairs that I can wear anytime for any LENGTH of time and be fine…..the pair that caused untold pain is now a pair that I wear frequently – but NOT if I’m going to have shoes on and be walking for longer than an hour b/c they will STILL give me blisters. The shoes that got us thru Disney happily were indeed Crocs – but Croc flip-flops…and OH, so cushy….
I’m a walking/running shoe kind of girl! I wear them every day, even at home. My feet and back thank me! I can’t imagine how crippled you would be if you wore flipflops (or high heels! Insanity!) at Disney with all that walking, but it doesn’t seem to bother some people. I’d rather be comfy.
Please, before talking about how ugly Crocs are, check out their website!!! Yes, the clogs are ugly. But they have so many more shoe styles now. In fact, they now have tennis shoes, sandals, flip flops, dressy shoes and more. And the majority are made with the Crocs design. My tennis shoes caused plantar fasciitis, but my Crocs cured it. I will only wear Crocs, and going to the parks won’t be any different. But please, stay away from the fakes! They are no where near as good! I challenge anyone who says they have a problem with them to get a pair and wear them to the parks and see how your feet, legs and back feel!
I loved my Crocs (especially my Mickey-head ones). The store off-brand ones don’t count because they aren’t made with the same lovely material. I will say, since my Mickey-head ones have been worn out I have been chosing to wear running shoes much more than in the past. The biggest thing for me was 1-comfort and 2- if I go on Kali River Rapids, I’m not sloshing around all day. I love them for my kids (especially the little Mary Jane ones because they are a little cuter) because they are easy to get on and off and to clean. I do realize they are ugly. That’s why none of our pics show our feet, lol.
Target does carry actual “Croc” brand now…..I believe they are called Jibbitz by Crocs, and they are relatively affordable!! and cute and come in all colors!
Crocs are the ugliest shoe ever made. Period.
That being said, I own two pairs. Which I have wore at Disney world. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. When I was working (im a teacher on summer break!!), I would wear them because I was on my feet allll day long. I prefer them to sneakers to Disney b/c the crocs breathe, air can flow over my feet and my feet don’t get hot. Also, when those daily showers roll thru Orlando, I can just keep trapsing on, b/c the water just flows thru (if its that deep…if not, then my feet dry faster.) My husband finally bought a pair for the boat this summer, and my 2 year old daughter has a pair also….if you ask her what shoes she wants to wear, she promptly yells “Crocs!” and runs and gets them out of her closet!!PS- yes, they do float. My daughter has thrown her off the boat as we were cruising, and it was floating along til we could get turned around to get it!!!
I saw you said you bought out some crocs at Target. Were they really Crocs brand or just target brand? It actually does make a difference. I always thought the Target brand would be fine, however, I did get a pair of actual Crocs and they are so much more comfortable. As for the look, I agree, the original CROCS are ugly. However, they now have all different styles. My 4 yr. old son has a pair that look like Lightning McQueen! I have a pair of t strap sandals that I didn’t think would be ok to wear all day, but I was wrong. Not only did I walk around Disney, my back felt better than when I walked around in sneakers! I am not normally an advocate for these, I am a recent changeling to Crocs. They are normally around $30 or more per pair, and when I want sandals, I really don’t want to pay more than $10. However, I had a credit to a company that was selling them and though…what he heck, I’ll try them. At-any-rate, yes, the originals are ugly. The Target brand ones are comfy for a little while, but not for a full day at Disney. Crocs now have tons of designs, including mary janes for the ladies, and I think I heard someone say something about heels. Their site is pretty cool and I’m amazed at what they’ve been able to do with the material. I like that the kids can play with those gib bitz things that they can put in the holes of the originals.
I am not normally an advocate for such things, but I wanted to let you know that if you are walking around Disney, taking breaks and such, I wore my Crocs tstrap sandals and was fine. If you are marathoning from one ride to the next without stopping, I wouldn’t know if they are ok. All I know is I’ve worn them from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. and have been fine. I have 3 kids and a husband, so we did some stopping to see characters or get a drink, but all-in-all I was ok.

I have hated Crocs for a looong time, and pre-motherhood I was one of THOSE ladies doing WDW in heels or platforms. However, due to a packing catastrophe a couple of years ago, I arrived at the Kingdom without a single pair of matching shoes! I gritted my teeth, went to the hotel shop and shelled out ~$50 for Mickey Mouse Crocs. For the rest of the trip my happy, quick drying feet were angry with me for making them suffer through the previous 29 years of Florida afternoon showers and water rides! Now I wear my crocs with pride every time I go back, though in “real” life they are off limits LOL!
*$10.
Either way. 🙂

You didn’t get two pair of Crocs at Target for $5. You got knock-off Crocs. 😉
As much as I don’t appreciate the LOOK of them, we won’t do WDW without them! One trip about 6 years ago, we all got our first pair of Crocs ever just for wearing to the parks. We wore Crocs the first two days… NO foot / back trouble. Then one day (we knew we wouldn’t be getting wet) we decided to go with our comfortable athletic shoes. By the end of THAT day, we and our feet were BEAT. 🙁
Went back to the Crocs for the rest of our trip, and now I know we will forever wear Crocs to Disny.

LOL. My Croc flip flops I know… two strikes against me, have excellent arch support and are far cuter and more comfortable than most shoes. That doesn’t mean I won’t be planning traditional tie shoes for my Disney adventure I will be bringing them for a variety. I also want to point out that there are lots of great sandals like keens that would be great for the park. It almost makes me wonder if I should go get some vibrams for you, not very pretty but many rave about their comfort.

I absolutely LOVE my crocs! I wore them black friday shopping one time and when everyone with me started to complain their feet hurt I was still going with no pain at all! I definitely plan on having Crocs for our trip to Disney next year- looks or not I don’t care. I’m in it for the comfort!

I have worn several different types of shoes at Disney from running shoes to Keens to Crocs, and my feet feel the best at the end of the day by far when I wear my Crocs. i know they are ugly, but they are so comfortable! I love them for my little one because it is one pair of shoes he can put on himself and I also love the little jibitz!
I have worn out my disney crocs. I wore them on three seperate trips to disney. I’m trying to decide what kind of shoe to wear on my upcoming trip. I can’t stand to wear wet shoes and I don’t know if my Yellow Box sandals will be comfortable enough for seven days in the parks. I may have to invest in another pair of Crocs.
Chip, what do you think the Europeans think of American’s obsession with crocs? haha dont you know they’re just dying on the inside?!
I had a student give an entire informative speech about how to properly destroy crocs and I have never laughed so hard. We were taught how to burn, feed them in a tree mulcher, sink them to the bottom of the ocean and more.
I have Disney crocs. I always swore I would never be caught dead in them. Then in 2006, my mom was having a lot of back pain in Disney and insisted it was her shoes. So she wanted Crocs. They were so expensive but she didnt want to be the only person wearing them so I bought a pair. Yes, they are huge and odd looking but they remind me of gardening clogs. They are super comfortable, give great support and are antimicrobial. I use them now when cleaning the bathtub though!
I have a pair of crocs, but they’re only for me to put on to wear around the house. I do a lot of standing (clipping coupons, reading the paper at the island in the kitchen, eating on the run, cooking, dishes, etc. If I don’t have the cushion for my feet that crocs (or doc marten sandals) provide, my feet are killing me by about 4-5pm. Now, I might wear them out to the mail box and back, but they’re definitely too hideous for running errands. The kids can wear them out, but they seem to trip over them. So again, it’s to the mail box and back. And that’s about it. Not much more than handy little water proof house shoes. Having said that, I’m thinking we may end up with a whole separate suitcase for our week long trip to Disney. With sneakers, you have to rotate your shoes (one pair on odd days and one pair on even days) so there is a day for your shoes to dry out. Otherwise, stinkasaurus rex will find us!
I personally love my Mickey Athens that are made by crocs, they so
comfortable I can walk miles in these and not even feel. I am not a fan
of the traditional crocs, however they are making some cute flip flops,
callet slippers, and I even saw a cute pair of wedges and they all feel
extremely comfortable.

Crocs are also easy to clean. You should just try them once.
I do not like the look of the regular crocs and have never owned any of them. I do have some Disney mary jane crocs, and had a WONDERFUL pair of croc sandals that I wore so much that I wore a hole through the bottom. The regular ones are UGLY, but I love mine. VERY comfortable.
I love my croc flip flops and I wore them all over Disney. We like water rides so I didnt wnat to wear my tennis shoes. If you get the real crocs they are super comfortable. I have tried to post as through my facebook but I keep getting an error.
Okay, well while crocs may be a bit dorky looking, my love them for my son. They are so comfertable, and easy to put on. No laces to be bothered with, no velcro to pull. Plus the disney ones are so so cute! I gotta say that (for my kids) crocs rock!
I have never tried a pair… I just can’t get past the look… If I know I’m going to be on my feet a lot, I wear my tennis shoes… I have a couple pairs of good socks that wick away the moisture and dry quick so that my feet don’t get “soggy”… I honestly don’t think I would like crocs on my kids either… Now I have seen ads for the new styles that are really cute, and if I could find them near me, I might try them on, but I don’t know for sure…
I LOVE my Crocs. They may not be stylish but they are very comfortable but only the name brand Crocs. The off brands are not comfy. Also the Croc flip flops are very comfy and more stylish. Crocs are not cheap if you buy the name brand. The knock offs are cheap. And with these you get what you pay for. And because of their comfort and doctor approved is why some nurses also wears Crocs. WDW is usually the only place I wear mine because of all the walking. Tennis shoes make my feet hurt by the end of the day and also are hot and sweaty and if your tennis shoes get wet, they will stay wet all day. I have a brother in law who makes fun of mine but I don’t care.
I ALWAYS wear flip flops/sandals when i go to Disney. I have really good comfy pairs not cheap foam ones like the old navy ones. I hate wearing running shoes since my feet get to hot. Honestly to each their own who cares what others wear as long as you’re comfortable.
For kids I am fine with them but adults I have to just shake my head sometimes.
I can’t stand them on myself or adults. I LOVE them for my kids because they made potty training a BREEZE! Plus, the kids can put them on themselves (which they love). I wouldn’t let my kids wear them all day at Disney though. Too much walking and I’d be afraid they’d get blisters! Yep, I’m one of those mean moms who makes them wear socks and tennis shoes if we’ll be walking a lot!
I LOVE my crocs!! The first pair I ever owned was a pair of Airwalks, I thought they were comfortable, but since I’ve bought a couple of pairs of actual crocs, I can tell a huge difference. They are well made compared to the knockoffs and SO much more comfortable!! I wear mine all the time.
