Could a Sequel To Disney's Film Enchanted Be In The Pipeline?

The Walt Disney World movie Enchanted which was released in 2007, quickly became a cult-favorite with it’s comedic and musical tale of a Fairytale Princess named Giselle who leaves here animated storybook world behind for an adventure in modern Manhattan.  The film starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon.

For years rumors have been swirling about a possible sequel for this much-loved film and it now seems as if there is some movement in the pipeline.  Reports began to surface back in 2016, with the Hollywood Reporter claiming that Hairspray director Adam Shankman had been recruited for the project.

Inside sources say the new film will be dubbed Disenchanted and will take place a decade after the first film with Giselle questions her happily-ever-after life.  However, there has been little movement associated with the project which was supposed to start filming back in 2017.

However, in a recent interview with Collider regarding his work on Step Up: High Water, Shankman did take time to talk about the project, giving fans hope that we may yet see a sequel. During the interview which took place on March 7, 2018, Shankman said that a script was in the works and would be turned in very soon.  He also added,  “I’ve been in touch with Amy [Adams] and the cast, and everybody is really into it. We all love the story about everybody wondering what exactly defines happily ever after.”

Shankman goes on to argue that the delays in the project where partly due to regime changes over at the studio as well as projects that got greelighted before the sequel.

However, it would seem as if Disenchanted is still a work in progress and may still see a possible release.  If it does, Shankman promised that there will be more singing and dancing than there was in the first film with all original music.  He also suggested both Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz would be back at the musical helm.

This is definitely a project we’ll be watching closely here at Chip and Co. Readers are encouraged to keep following along for the latest updates.
