Walls Up at Universal Studios Florida – Is a Ghostbusters Coaster Materializing Where Rip Ride Rockit Once Roamed?
Something strange is happening in the neighborhood—and it’s happening fast. Construction walls have popped up around the iconic firehouse façade near Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida, just ahead of the coaster’s scheduled closure on August 18. And while we know a new coaster is set to replace it… could the presence of these themed walls be hinting at something paranormal?

Let’s talk theories—because Ghostbusters fans might want to break out their proton packs.
The walls surrounding the firehouse sport themed signage that seems to maintain, rather than erase, the Ghostbusters aesthetic. This little detail has sparked some supernatural speculation: could Universal be planning a brand-new Ghostbusters-themed coaster? The signage points toward preservation work on the firehouse, which along with the New York Library facade are items taken directly from the Ghostbusters films.
One possibility being tossed around the fan community is that this could mirror the ride system being built for the Fast & Furious coaster currently under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood—just swap out Dom’s muscle car for ECTO-1 and add a few ghosts. And bam! You’re drifting past the Sedgewick Hotel instead of speeding through downtown L.A.

While Universal has not officially confirmed what’s replacing Rip Ride Rockit, we do know a coaster is coming to this space. The timing, the theming, and the continued use of the firehouse exterior could all be pointing toward a thrilling new way to “bust” ghosts, coaster-style.
For longtime fans, the idea of a Ghostbusters attraction returning in full force is anything but outlandish. Back in the early days of Universal Studios Florida, the Ghostbusters Spooktacular was a headliner. Taking guests to the Gozerian Temple and showcasing groundbreaking live show effects, it remains one of the most missed original attractions. Although it only ran for six years, its legacy looms large.

More recently, the Ghostbusters franchise has made a strong comeback at Universal Orlando:
- Halloween Horror Nights 2019 saw the original Ghostbusters film brought to life with a fan-favorite haunted house filled with ‘80s nostalgia, library ghosts, and yes, Stay-Puft himself.
- In 2024, the new Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was featured at HHN, putting fans face-to-face with Garraka’s icy grip.
- And right now, Ghostbusters is a showstopper in the Universal Mega Movie Parade, rolling through the streets alongside Jaws, E.T., and Back to the Future.

All signs point to the fact that Ghostbusters remains a cornerstone of Universal’s cinematic legacy—and this may finally be the moment it gets the E-ticket treatment it deserves.
As Senior Director of Entertainment Mike Aiello put it, Ghostbusters stands tall next to Jaws, BTTF, and E.T. as “core values of what the early Universal Studios theme park experience was.” With the firehouse still intact and those mysterious walls rising, maybe—just maybe—we’re on the verge of seeing bustin’ make us feel good once again.
Stay tuned, because if Universal announces a Ghostbusters coaster… you heard it here first.
