Are you looking for a great place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Check out Tortilla Jo’s and the UVA Bar and Cafe in Downtown Disney at Disneyland.
Tortilla Jo’s will be festively decorated for Cinco de Mayo and will be serving up a custom a la carte menu of traditional Mexican dishes on Saturday, May 5th. There will also be a mariachi band performance from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. In addition, there will be face painting from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, a balloon artist and photo opportunities with props.
The Cinco de Mayo a la carte menu will feature Aguachiles a la Zaragoza (Mexican shrimp marinated in citrus guajillo and served with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cilantro and avacado). It will also have Ensalada Poblana which is a salad of baby mixed greens, sheered jicama, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, carrots, cilantro and a tamarind vinaigrette. For the taco lovers, Tacos a la batalla is a great choice. It comes with 3 corn tortillas that are loaded with braised lamb, onion, cilantro and salsa de arbol and served with rice and beans.
You can also choose the Pescado Cinco de Mayo, a pan seared halibut filet that is served on top of rajas con crema, sauteed corn, tomatoes, house made Mexican chorizo and mushrooms. If you are craving something sweet, Camote en Dulce de Leche can hit the spot. It is a baked sweet potato that is served with vanilla ice cream and a delicious caramel sauce.
You can also find a Cinco de Mayo celebration at UVA Bar and Cafe with their specialty menu and cocktails. Margaritas will be available in a variety of flavors including the classic, strawberry, mango, watermelon and raspberry.
Their special Cinco de Mayo menu will feature Torta de Hamburgesa, a signature beef blend on Tellera bread with Guajillo sauce, refried pinto beans, avacado, shredded lettuce, queso fresco, pickle red onion and pickled jalapenos. There will also be Mole Chicken Wings. These wings are tossed in a Mole sauce, topped with white sesame seeds and green onion and served with lime crema. Classic Chips and Salsa will also be on hand.
Guajillo Shrimp Tostadas are another featured menu item. They include tostada shells served with Guajillo and lime shrimp as well as corn and avocado salsa, all topped with lime crema. Ancho Short Rib Tacos round out the Cinco de Mayo food offerings. They are Ancho Chile braised short ribs on a corn tortilla with a house made coleslaw, cilantro lime vinaigrette and pickled red onion.
UVA Bar and Grill will also have a specialty drink menu to celebrate. The Spicy Chocolate Martini is sure to be a crowd favorite. It features Patron xo cafe incendio, Baileys, Aztec chocolate bitters and whipped cream. The Perfect Patron Palmoa is a blend of Patron silver tequila, agave nectar, fresh pink grapefruit juice and lime juice. There will also be the Repo Old Fashioned, (Patron reposado, agave nectar, orange, orange bitters and luxardo cherry) and the Patron Tequila Taster, (.75oz Silver, .75oz Reposado and .75oz Anejo).
If you prefer beer, Oskar Blues Beerito Mexican Lager is a great choice. This light, amber Mexican lager is brewed with premium German and Colorado sourced craft malts that feature a crisp accent from noble hops. Another choice is the El Sully 21ST Amendment Brewery. Also crisp, this Mexican-style lager has light flavors of spice from Northern Brewer hops.
Cinco de Mayo festivities will take place on Saturday, May 5th so make plans to stop by Downtown Disney to celebrate!
