Construction Continues at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort with Major Exterior Work Underway

If you’ve recently sailed over to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort expecting tranquil tiki vibes and a perfect castle view… you might instead be greeted by a bit of a construction jungle. New photos show extensive scaffolding wrapping the exterior of the Great Ceremonial House, as Disney continues ongoing refurbishment work around one of Walt Disney World’s most iconic resorts.

From the looks of it, this is more than just a quick coat of island sunshine paint. The structure is surrounded by multi-level scaffolding platforms, suggesting deeper exterior work is underway. While the Polynesian has seen major updates over the past decade including the addition of the Island Tower and refreshed amenities, this latest round appears focused on maintaining and refreshing the resort’s central hub.

Guests staying at the resort right now may notice some visual disruptions, especially from interior locations and walkways where the scaffolding is clearly visible. Certain sightlines toward Seven Seas Lagoon and even those dreamy Magic Kingdom views could be partially impacted depending on your vantage point. That said, Disney has kept the core experience intact, with dining, shopping, and most amenities continuing to operate during construction.

This exterior refurbishment is just one piece of a larger wave of updates happening across the Polynesian, including changes to transportation areas, roadways, and even temporary closures like the boat dock earlier this season. While it may not be the postcard-perfect Poly moment right now, all signs point to these updates being part of a bigger plan to improve flow, capacity, and guest experience long-term.

So yes, the tiki torches are still glowing… they’re just currently sharing the spotlight with a few hundred feet of scaffolding.
