Cinderella’s Debut is a huge Success

While Cinderella’s debut at the Ball was every girl’s dream come true, the box office success was Disney Studios dream come true.  Topping the charts at $70.1 million the first weekend, Cinderella continues the studio’s rise to the top as Disney fans, enjoyed the favorite tale.

The new live action film, staring Lily James as Ella and Richard Madden as Prince Kitt, brings us all the magic of happily ever after with incredibly breathtaking costumes and heartstopping scenes.

Along with Disney’s short, Frozen Fever, Cinderella was one movie at the top of the bucket list with many fans wanted to see Cate Blanchett’s portrayal of Lady Tremaine and the transformation of the pumpkin into a golden carriage.    Starting with Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, Into the Woods and now Cinderella, Disney has taken some of their best known animated characters and created a whole new set of movies for us to enjoy.   And there are more on the way – The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo are all in various stages of production.

The success according to Dave Hollis, head of distribution at Disney, seems to come from that fact that 66% of the attendees were women who want to see these stories being told “in part because many of hem have a female protagonist”.  The fact that Frozen Fever short was also included made it an even sweeter deal for Disney lovers.
