One of our favorite gift shops in all of Walt Disney World has to be the Stage 1: Company Store off the Muppet Courtyard in Hollywood Studios. This retail outlet is your home to Muppet souvenirs including clothes, hats, toys and pins as well as a wide range of other Disney theme park merchandise. However, what really wins us over is the theming. The shop pays homage to the Happiness Hotel from The Great Muppet Caper with lots of little details that can be found by looking around the shop! (Hint: Be sure to look up!)
That’s why we here at Chip and Co. were sad to notice that on a recent visit Stage 1, the store has dwindled down to half its capacity with construction walls set up.
Take a look:
As you can see, a wing of the store is now closed to the public with a construction wall.
Here’s a wider shot of the closure.
Visitors encounter the construction as soon as you enter Stage 1.
One of the entrances to the shop has now been closed off to visitors
As of going to print, Disney is not reporting on the construction and no information is given on their refurbishment schedule. Our very own Chip was at the park this week and spoke to Cast Members at the shop who said that they know that changes are happened but no one is quite sure what they are as of yet.
This is a story we’ll be watching closely in the weeks and months ahead so be sure to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest news and updates.
