Celebrating Thanksgiving at Walt Disney World

Celebrating Thanksgiving at Walt Disney World

As the days grow shorter and shorter, and the weather starts to turn a little chilly, the changing of the leaves symbolizing the changing of the seasons.  Gone is the summer with it’s 100 degree temperatures and 90% humidity, and in it’s place the calendar marches on towards the holidays.  Of all of the things I would love to do one day at Walt Disney World, celebrating Thanksgiving (and Christmas also) is at the top of the list.  For those of you that are planning that magical journey during Thanksgiving, I’m sure it will come as no surprise to you that Disney has you covered when it comes to all of the places that you can get a traditional Thanksgiving meal while you are visiting the resort or parks.

Over at the Magic Kingdom, the places to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal are actually limited, so if you want to choose one of these places, you better get started now to make your dining reservation.

While Epcot certainly has more choices available for your Thanksgiving meal, you’ll still want to make those reservations now in order to get a seat at the restaurant of our choice.  Personally, I would love to see if Akershus Royal Banquet Hall would serve a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, or if the Thanksgiving dinner would have a Norwegian influence!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park:

In addition to the food offerings at the theme parks (which, remember, you will need to have park admission on that day to get to your restaurant), there are other great locations for your traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the resorts!  What I like about this is that even though you may be staying at a value resort, you can still in some cases enjoy the Thanksgiving dinner right at your resort.

  • End Zone Food Court – dinner

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge:

  • Jiko – The Cooking Place – dinner
  • Sanaa – lunch and dinner

  • Garden Grove – buffet from 5-9:30 p.m.
  • Il Mulino – buffet from 5-11 p.m.

As you can plainly see, there are quite a few locations that will offer up what I am sure is a great Thanksiving dinner to you and your family.  The key is to make your reservation as soon as you can!  I have no doubt that some of these locations will be gone quickly, especially after Halloween is over and November is upon us next week!  To make your reservations, check out the Disney World website or call 407.WDW.DINE (407-939-3463).  Whatever you decide on, have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!  So tell me, who has enjoyed Thanksgiving at Walt Disney World, and what was your favorite location for enjoying Thanksgiving dinner?  Leave your answers in the comments below, or comment in the Disney Discussion section of the site!

  1. Because I am a Fort Wilderness fan, I think Trails End would actually do a very nice traditional Thanksgiving buffet. Then afterwards, a walk or carriage ride to look at the holiday decor some of the camp sites have would be the perfect holiday finish. 🙂

  3. I’ve done Thanksgiving there twice, and the first time we ate in the Pop food court, and it was ok. Enough food to feed me and my husband, but nothing to write home about. I would actually highly recommend heading over to Mangino’s Bistro at Shades of Green. You don’t have to be a guest, or even military to eat there, and they have an amazing Thanksgiving dinner at an affordable price. If I’m ever back in the World for Thanksgiving, that’s where I’m headed.
