Gaston

Devon Staples was a good looking  22 year old with his whole life ahead of him. He was once a cast member at Disney World, he played Gaston and a few other characters around the parks.

On July 4th he set off a firework on his head and sadly did not survive. He was celebrating the Fourth of July in Maine with family and friends. He was holding a lighter and accidentally caused the mortar tube on his head to go off. According to his brother, Cody Staples, “I was the first one who got there. There was no rushing him to the hospital. There was no Devon left when I got there,” “It was a freak accident.”

He is described as having a great sense of humor and would do anything to make people laugh. And he always stuck up for the underdog. He loved his job at Disney because he could make people laugh and make their day a bit brighter.

As a tribute to Devon his brother wants everyone to go out and do something nice for someone else. Show love to someone that you don’t know. Sounds good to me!

Our condolences got out to his family and friends.

  1. A freak accident would be if the tube fell over and shot him in the head. This was clearly stupidity, so let’s not play the game of political correctness, and try to make this anything other than what it was.

  2. Being drunck can be deadly. Don’t drive, shoot firearms, operate machinery or mess with explosives when drinking. It does sound like the firework malfunctioned as well. But the alcohol was the cause and he did not follow the instructions…. Sad. I hope his family can find peace after this tragic incident.

  3. This isn’t a freak accident. It’s not even an accident. He intentionally strapped fireworks to his head.

  4. Very sad, but hardly a freak accident. Alcohol, fireworks, and the youthful notion that one is indestructible make for a very bad combination. My condolences this family and friends.

  5. Why doesn’t Disney Inc. show any sympathy for the U.S. citizens they are firing in order to hire cheaper foreigners with H-1B visas? The current workers are actually training their replacements. That isn’t what the H-1B program is for.

  6. This clearly was not a freak accident, as the headline reads. This was self inflicted and the epitome of alcohol abuse and absurd judgement. I would never want my Grandkids to see it as an accident, but rather a warning.

  7. Not a freak accident but a stupid stunt gone awry. Leave the fireworks to the professionals.

  9. As a Disney-related site that doesn’t want to “wreck the magic”, don’t you mean he played “with” Gaston and other characters?
