The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Friday the recall of 447,000 infant car seats and carriers. Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, Indiana, produces car seats under the brands names of Disney, Eddie Bauer, Safety 1st, and Cosco.
The company has received 77 reports of its child restraint handle loosening or coming off which poses a falling hazard to infants. Three reports of infant bumps, bruises, and a head injury have resulted thus far.
Affected models were produced from January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009. These were sold nationwide at department and children’s stores from January 2008 through December 2009.
Check the side of the car seat or carrier for the model number and manufacture date against the list here to determine if your gear is at risk.
