The Captain’s Grille, in the Walt Disney World Yacht Club Resort, is unofficially anticipating a much-needed refurbishment in 2017. Other than some new tables and chairs, wallpaper and paint, and an update to the menu in 2014, the decor and look have remained the same for the past 25 years. We can expect a reimagined menu, a reconditioned interior, and updated decor when the anticipated work is completed.
The dinner menu offers specialty cocktails, wine, and beer. The appetizers and entrees are scrumptious. If you feel like you can’t decide then your waiter/waitress will make your decision even more difficult when telling you about the specials of the day. We are curious to see what will change, and what will remain the same on the menus, after completion of this possible refurbishment.
When I heard about the potential for the refurbishment, I made sure to get over to Captain’s Grille to enjoy dinner there. Since no dates have been released yet, I wanted to be sure I had the opportunity to enjoy a meal here. The steaks are cooked to perfection and the Cabernet-braised Short Rib is beyond spectacular. We are not sure how they can improve on such an excellent dinner menu, but we are excited about the potential.
We all love dessert, and for many of us, this is the most important part of a great meal. If you are too full for dessert then you may want to enjoy an after-dinner drink or a specialty coffee. We look forward to an updated dessert menu and are hopeful some of the favorites will remain.
The desserts at Captain’s Grille are truly a class-act. From the Gianduja Chocolate Cake, to the S’More’s Tart and the Cheesecake, you are sure to find something that will appeal to your palate. Even if you do not have time for a full sit-down meal, a dessert with a drink of your choice will fit the bill.
The interior is quite dark when you first walk in. The darkness is anticipated as you would expect an old-fashioned New England Yacht Club to be. The three-dimensional art on the wall is interesting to look at. The curves of the walls, along with the porthole windows and the vintage lighting add to the ambience. As a Massachusetts native familiar with Nantucket Island, of which the Yacht Club is imagined and designed after, I look forward to seeing how they will reimagine and enhance the interior look of the Captain’s Grille.
The Captain’s Grille has become a favorite restaurant for many. Reservations are recommended, but not required. Breakfast is served from 7:30am-11:25am. You can order a-la-carte or enjoy the breakfast buffet. Lunch includes lobster rolls, sandwiches, fish and chips, and burgers. The dinner menu, however, is the creme-de-la-creme of the Captain’s Grille offerings.
The Yacht Club Convention Center is undergoing an expansion and this may be the reason Captain’s Grille is facing a potential reconditioning. We eagerly await an official announcement from Disney regarding the anticipated refurbishment dates. But for now, be sure to enjoy a meal at this amazing hidden-gem restaurant.
