The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk Faces Growing Wage Lawsuits From Former Employees

The legal layer cake keeps getting taller for The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk, as more former employees have reportedly filed claims accusing the restaurant of wage violations tied to side work, tipped pay, and paycheck deductions. According to court records, at least 11 former employees have now filed claims against the third-party Walt Disney World restaurant, which opened at Disney’s BoardWalk in 2024 and quickly became known for its ornate dining room, bakery cases, and premium pricing.

The latest complaint was filed on April 30 by former server Alexandria Pope, who worked at the restaurant from July 2024 through January 2025. Pope is seeking nearly $4,804 plus interest and attorney’s fees, including $2,402 in alleged unpaid wages and an equal amount in damages.

In the complaint, Pope alleges that while she was paid as a tipped employee, she was required to perform extensive side work that did not generate tips. The tasks allegedly included stocking drinks, washing and putting away dishes, wiping menus, putting up chairs, mopping, sweeping, polishing silverware, changing tablecloths, and charging table lamps.

The complaint argues that the work was not occasional or minor, but instead took up significant portions of her shifts, including time before and after her tip-producing work began. Pope also alleges that deductions were taken from her pay for uniform cleaning and required footwear.

The Cake Bake Shop has not publicly commented on Pope’s specific complaint. In a prior statement regarding earlier claims, company Vice President Angie Daniel said the company remains committed to its team members and to maintaining a respectful, positive workplace.

It is important to note that these claims remain allegations unless resolved through settlement or court ruling. Still, the growing number of complaints puts a spotlight on the restaurant’s labor practices at one of Walt Disney World’s most visible dining locations.

The Cake Bake Shop has drawn plenty of attention since opening, not just for its elegant atmosphere and bakery displays, but also for its high-end menu pricing, including cake slices that can cost around $22. Now, the restaurant is facing a very different kind of attention as former employees continue bringing wage-related claims forward.
