Building Your Galaxy: Custom Droids and Batuu Adventure Buddies at Droid Depot

Ever notice how it’s almost always the tin cans and hairy sidekicks saving the galaxy while the Jedi take all the credit? From stubborn astromechs to scrappy Kashyyyk warriors, the unsung heroes of Star Wars have been pulling our favorite protagonists out of tight spots for generations. If you’ve ever wanted your very own trusty companion to guide you through Black Spire Outpost, Droid Depot at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (in both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort) is your ultimate pitstop.

Meet Your New Furry Co-Pilot

Droid Depot

Disneyland park, Droid Depot is expanding its lineup beyond metal and wires with the launch of the Batuu Adventure Buddies collection. First up? A surprisingly interactive Ewok. Crafted by a fictional crew of Anzellan manufacturers, these little Endor natives come loaded with motorized facial expressions, expressive eyes, and an endless array of giggles, chatter, and full-blown Ewokese. Grogu and a Hutlett will be joining the lineup later, with all three eventually rolling into Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

They aren’t just display pieces, either. Tapping your Ewok’s head or double tapping its belly triggers random reactions, while three quick head taps unlock two wild special modes:

  • Endor Dance Party: Triggers rhythmic eye movements, chanting, and drumming with nearby Ewoks joining in.
  • Forest Call Chain: Double tapping the belly near other Buddies initiates a scout call that prompts surrounding toys to reply in their own native languages.

You can even pick up themed gear packs packed with mini food, toys, and tools. Snapping these into your Ewok’s left hand unlocks unique animations and sound effects. When you buy one, a Cast Member will walk you through a special activation ceremony at a dedicated wall bay to officially bring your new buddy to life.

Build Your Own Astromech

Droid Depot

If you prefer classic rivets over fur, the main attraction inside Droid Depot remains the build-your-own droid experience. The workshop is a deliciously chaotic mess of blueprints, tech specs, and overhead scrap parts. Once you check in, you’re handed a blueprint and a metal basket, then tasked with choosing your base frame:

  • BB-Series: Dome, dome connection plate, body sphere, and motivator.
  • R-Series: Dome, body, center leg, and two R side legs.
  • C-Series: Dome, body, center wheel, and two C side legs.
  • A-LT-Series: Dome, body, and two A-LT side legs.

Next comes the best part: stepping up to the motorized conveyor belt to hunt for parts. You can mix and match colors to recreate iconic droids (like a classic red-and-white R5-D4) or invent a completely custom color scheme.

Once your basket is full, head to a assembly station where you’ll screw everything together. Hit the “Alert Tech” button, and a Cast Member will help you run the activation sequence, watching your pile of plastic and metal light up for the very first time. Before you hit the streets of Batuu, you can also grab personality chips, decals, and add-on tools to give your new travel partner a voice and look that is entirely your own.
