Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s Website Gets a New Description
The wildest ride in the wilderness is getting a spooky new story! Walt Disney World has updated the official Big Thunder Mountain Railroad website with a new description and concept art, teasing what’s to come for the classic attraction.

The ride is currently undergoing a refurbishment to keep the experience in top shape and is scheduled to reopen in 2026.
The new details reveal that the attraction will introduce “new magic” for fans to discover, including a journey through the stunning Rainbow Caverns. However, the new description hints that these caverns “may not be as welcoming as they first appear,” suggesting a new, eerie twist to the classic adventure.

A Deeper Dive into the Wild Story
Disney’s updated website now shares a more detailed backstory for the ride. The new storyline begins with Barnabas T. Bullion, a gold prospector who struck it rich in the Big Thunder region. However, as the mining company dug deeper, mysterious and unexplainable things began to happen, as if the mountain itself was fighting back.
This sets the stage for your journey. Guests will still descend into an active mine shaft and board a runaway train, dodging dynamite and falling boulders. But now, it’s clear that the rip-roaring adventure is a fight against the very mountain you’re exploring. The official description ends with a thrilling promise: “Your rip-roaring adventure proves that some legends are true. You’re sure to have a real blast!”
